Every painting is a journey

Work by Cocki Vink (Noordwijk, 1950) attracts attention because of the bright colours and the ´stories´ which she creates while painting on paper and canvas, in a variety of formats. Being both an artist and an anthropologist, Cocki is inspired by what is alien and far away. She identifies with the colours of exotic cultures. When starting a painting, Cocki has a rough idea of what it should look like. But this often changes while painting. As a painting progresses, instinctive adventures develop. Most of her works do not have a title. Spectators are given the freedom to create their own story.

The colours and shapes always portray people on a journey, accompanied by other people, animals, plant or inanimate objects. There is always a ship somewhere, a symbol of the conscious and subconscious domains of man, fellow travellers on the journey that is life. In addition to paintings, Cocki also creates objects, such as plates, boxes and books. She has been creating art for many years. She exhibits regularly, and her work can be found in various business premises, in art exchange programmes and in many private collections, both in the Netherlands and abroad.
